New physical therapy offerings for people with cancer, Parkinson’s
Physical therapist Danialle Draeger is now a certified Oncology Rehab Therapist. "Oncology rehabilitation supports patients at any stage—during treatment, after treatment, or while managing the effects of surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy," Danialle explains. "It's optimal to see patients early, even before treatments begin, to establish a baseline and prepare them to tolerate treatments."
This multidisciplinary approach addresses multiple body systems affected by cancer. "We evaluate everything from the musculoskeletal and lymphatic systems to cardio/respiratory and even the nervous system," says Danialle. "The training has made me more confident in identifying and addressing symptoms, even those that might seem outside traditional physical therapy."
Danialle is passionate about helping patients maintain their health during treatment and beyond. “I want to be as prepared as possible to help those fighting cancer and those dealing with long-term effects.”
Physical therapist Olive Frias has introduced Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!) to provide more flexible, personalized care for individuals with Parkinson’s and beyond. Unlike LSVT Big!, a four-week intensive program, PWR! offers a framework adaptable to each patient’s needs. “PWR! lets us customize care based on a patient’s goals,” Olive explains. “It’s not about strict protocols—it’s about helping someone walk without a cane or stay safe at home.”
The program blends head-to-toe evaluation with exercises and functional training, like standing from a chair or navigating crowded spaces. “Even in late stages, exercise helps slow progression,” Olive says. “That’s why I’m passionate—it truly makes a difference.”
