God’s Handiwork
By Terri Packard
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works...”
My mom recently handed me a photo book from the early years of my grandparents’ relationship. It was filled with pictures I had never seen. As I looked through them, I noticed something I had never thought about before: their hands were telling a story.
In their earliest photos, they held hands, but their bodies were still apart. But in their engagement photo—a black-and-white Polaroid—my grandma’s hand rested on my grandpa’s chest while his arm wrapped around her waist, held in a beautiful embrace. Their hands seemed to tell the story of the chapter of life they were in. It made me wonder: What are our hands saying about the chapter of life we’re in?
Open your hands to what God wants. Our lives are not finished simply because some chapters have already been written. Put them to work helping others. Loosen your grip on what you cannot control. He still has people for us to love, prayers for us to pray, encouragement for us to give, and good works for us to do.
