A Little Verse That Says Quite A Lot

“O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge...”
This is a brief little verse, but it is jam-packed with comfort!
Consider first to whom David is praying: the LORD. The fact that the name “LORD” is in all caps reveals that in the original text it is the special covenant name of God that communicates God’s faithful and unchanging nature.
Second, David claims God as his own. “MY God” he says. David recognized that the LORD is a God who enters into personal relationships with people, so that those who are His may claim Him as their own.
Last, David describes God as his refuge. God is a Person who has the power and presence to provide safety and security for David - for David and all who belong to the LORD.
So, let’s put it all together. In this one little verse we learn that we can have a personal relationship with a faithful and unchanging God who is a refuge for those who call on him. That’s a mouthful of truth for just ten words!
